Tai Chi Chuan as a martial art can be traced to many of the ancient fighting arts to come from the Asian continent. This has lead to many different “family” styles of Tai Chi Chuan being developed, each with its own specialties and distinctive practice forms. All of them, regardless of style, have similar principles and concepts that make Tai Chi Chuan unique as a martial art. Its particular way of training, application of relaxed movement, power generation, and awareness make Tai Chi Chuan an extremely effective martial art not to be underestimated.
Healing and self-protection go hand in hand with the development of tai chi movement theory and energy work in class. Deep study of Tai Chi Chuan will reveal its holistic approach to the body-mind-spirit connection. Exploration of the Yin-Yang philosophy, dynamic opposites, cyclical patterns, and how it relates to Tai Chi Chuan will be touched upon as well.
Every student will learn the Chen style Silk Reeling exercises and the Yang style short form, however multiple training styles and exercises will be occasionally explored to fit each students needs. Chen style Tai Chi Chuan, Tai Chi Philosophy, and combat applications will be taught at intermediate and advanced levels.
Adult Program: There is no official age limit in this class, but youth and kids don’t usually gravitate towards this martial art. Morning classes will be taught with an emphasis on warming-up the tai chi way and health aspects. Form work is a big part of tai chi chuan, but it will not be the main portion of the class time in the morning. The philosophy of movement that encompasses tai chi chuan will be discussed each class. There is no ranking system, yet there is a curriculum available for each student.
Head Instructor: The instructor Kyle Connally, has been studying martial arts for 20+ years with experience in Kenpo, Aikido, Jujitsu, Filipino stick and knife fighting, Ninjutsu, as well as Chi Kung energy work.
